A rail journey planner has added emotional milestones to its replacement-bus information after passengers requested a clearer explanation of what their Saturday would become. The route now lists denial, bargaining and an unplanned visit to a retail park.
The bus will depart from a point described as near the station, provided passengers interpret near as a short period of uncertainty. Staff will identify the correct vehicle using a destination board containing a place nobody booked. The driver has been given a route, although not necessarily the one passengers were imagining.
Traveller Philip Reed said he appreciated the improved transparency. His original itinerary promised one train and a walk; the updated version offered two buses and an opportunity to rethink the importance of the visit. He has packed a second sandwich, which he considers a meaningful change in his relationship with transport.
The operator said replacement services kept people moving, and passengers would indeed spend much of the trip moving between possible bus stops. A feedback form asks whether the journey met expectations. Reed has selected yes, explaining that his expectations were revised so extensively during the morning that they now consist of reaching home with the same suitcase.
